Lauran Ostberg, Stromsburg librarian, is fairly new to her job with just a year as librarian. She had an idea for a Christmas open house at the library, having previously worked at a bank, she knew banks often had these.

Chari Peterson welcomes customers old and new to the Serendipity Boutique, conveniently located about seven miles from Stromsburg, Osceola, and Shelby, and only ten miles from Gresham. The Boutique’s Grand Opening was the 14th-15th from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Seniors all over Polk County may be asking themselves this question. They can no longer drive, so how do they get to appointments and to the grocery store and pharmacy? An answer is Busy Wheels. Busy Wheels has been serving Stromsburg since 1983.

Polk County News About 10 AM on Thursday morning, Joan Sterup was driving her 2006 Lincoln Zephyr northbound on Commercial Street, going to park. When she went to park she hit the accelerator instead of the brake, jumping two curbs and hitting the Economy Hometown Market in Stromsburg.

Because of several generous donors, the High Plains Community School was able to raise $13,100 for the Book Blast. This money will go directly to the students to build their home libraries. Above and Below: High Plains Elementary students proudly display their new books.

Coloring Contest Winners

Seventy-seven kids ages 2 through 12 years old turned in coloring sheets for the first Merry Mayor’s Coloring Contest. Mayor Donald Graff drew two names out of the seventy-seven entries to receive $5 in Dawg Dollars. Congratulations to Aydan Alexander and Cruz Tonniges on being the lucky two drawn!

Flag Raising Ceremony

Polk County Veterans assembled at the Courthouse on the morning of December 7 for a flag raising ceremony presented by Veteran Service Officer Kenneth Toline in honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
