LINES ON THE PAGEThis past Saturday, I sold books at an event in Hastings, Nebraska. I hooked my phone up to the GPS before I drove off. I knew where Hastings was, but wasn’t sure where to find the building.So I knew I hadn’t left it at home beside the bed!

Library Happenings

The Osceola Library will be participating in WanderNebraska 2026 and invites you to join us as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. Stop by the Osceola Library to learn how to explore Nebraska’s story through the FREE statewide travel adventure program. This program runs May 1,2026-Sept.
Congratulations to the 2026 Foundation for Annie Jeffrey Scholarship recipients. The Foundation is proud to award these 12 students a scholarship as they pursue a degree in healthcare. Festival Help Needed

Set up for Festival will once again begin at 5:00 pm on Thursday, June 18th. This involves setting up planks and concrete blocks for seating sweeping out the interior of the bandstand and other places in the square.
In preparation for a new superintendent, the Cross County Superintendent’s office got a new coat of paint and the carpet shampooed. It will be fresh when Supt. Warren arrives in a few weeks. Photo provided.

#351, Indian State NamesOur county is bordered on the north by the Platte River, familiar ground to the Pawnee tribe. Their name for it was pani maha; flat water or river. Maha is most familiar to us in the name Omaha. To make pani phonetically friendly, it became “paw nee.” Sound familiar?
