Solar Array Installed Near Stromsburg

STROMSBURG —Polk County Rural Public Power District broke ground on a new 1MW solar site on February 17, 2023. The array’s power will be distributed directly to Polk County RPPD’s customer-owners in the form of low fixed-cost energy.

Nyberg Selected for All State Choir

Revin Nyberg, a junior at Cross County Community Schools, was recently selected for All-State Choir. He was the only Polk County student selected for one of the All-State ensembles.

Trevor Blevins is the winner of week 8 missing only 4 games. He was closest on the tie breaker by just four yards. Others missing only four were Carita Willits and Pat Recker. Five more people missed just five games. The Clemson-Miami game was picked incorrectly often with Miami winning.

Shelby Trunk or Treat

The Shelby Trunk or Treat will be on Saturday, October 28th on Walnut Street. People can set up their trunks from 2-2:45 PM and trick or treating will be begin at 3 PM. It will continue until 5 PM or until treats are gone. Please contact the library to sign up at 402-527-5181 and to get rules.

Blood Pressure Clinics

FourAmerican LegionAuxiliary Post $296 members attended the District 7 fall roundup in David City on Sunday, October 15th. The fall roundup was a joint session with other Legion Posts and Auxiliary Posts in District 7. Shelby Auxiliary received recognition in achieving 100% membership for 2023.

Bob McLaughlin Benefit

Bob McLaughlin recently went through a spinal surgery due to a narrowing of the spinal column. He is currently recovering and out of work for the foreseeable future. All money raised will go to Bob for his medical expenses, daily living costs and any other needs during his recovery.

Chamber Welcomes El Centenario

After being in the restaurant business for about 12-13 years, Jose Leon and his family had an opportunity to open in Stromsburg. Jose’s uncle owns the company, which also includes the David City location. The business is family run, including members of the family pictured above.

The Rising Generation of Polk County

You learn a lot from a school bus ride. Recently my wife, Tammie, received her first note from a student on her bus route. It was short, sweet, showed kindness and gratitude, and spoke to the character of this young 3rd grader and the quality of his lessons outside of the required schoolbooks.
