State Fair Results...So Far

Through day three of the state fair, we have a few results. Some events have yet to happen. Polk County 4-H students have received two special recognition ribbons, 25 purple ribbons and 36 blue ribbons.

The Evolution of Transportation

Transportation has come a long way during our time on Earth. Walking was originally something we did to go to school or the store or our jobs. Now walking has become a recreational activity rather than a primary form of transportation thanks to the invention of cars, trucks and airplanes.

Finally, we were able to have a morning outside on the patio for a bit before it became too hot. While sitting there some peeled cucumbers for a delicious creamy cucumber salad. After that task was completed, we enjoyed talking about something we appreciated.
Bargains on 92 returned to Polk County this year with several sales in three of the four communities. Stromsburg had yard sales, baked goods and food trucks. Osceola had antiques and yard sales. SOUVENIR QUILT RETURNS

The Osceola souvenir quilt which was made prior to September 1889 will be on display at the Polk County Historical Society’s quilts and art event on Sunday, September 10th. This quilt is special for many reasons. It was made by women of the Methodist Episcopal Church (M.E.

Slow Down, Sign Warns

Sheriff Ladwig reported Polk County now has two of these signs showing the speed limit and the speed a driver is going. He said they will be placed wherever needed, often in high traffic areas and problem areas. He said they do record speeds.

The Osceola boy’s basketball team hosted their second annual Driving with the Dawgs road rally to kick off homecoming week. About seven teams participated. The rules were you must take a selfie or video of a person in your car with the clue item.
The Shelby-Rising City weight room and fitness center will be available daily from 7:00-7:45 AM under the supervision of staff. There will be no weights after school. Photo provided.
