A few weeks ago, I received an email from a reader in Texas. The subject line simply said “Lawnmower.” The email contained a photo of a riding lawn mower I owned long ago. I got the rider shortly after I purchased my first house—almost 30 years ago.

Royal Family Kids’ Camp

We serve local foster children that have been documented cases of abuse or neglect. Some of our campers are still in the foster system, some have been adopted, and some have been reunited with their biological families.

Update on Highway 81 Construction

Polk County News received a response from NDOT (Nebraska Department of Transportation), although they still don’t say why the construction is postponed. Mayor Everingham reported they were choosing to do another highway first.

Schools Under New State Rules

Two bills have recently been passed that affect schools: LB 243 which has to do with property tax relief and LB 414 (together with LB 705) which is option enrollment. LB 243 increases the property tax credit limit to give taxpayers a break. However this is less money going to our schools.

Locals Compete in Demo and Figure 8 at Fair

Friday night was the Figure 8 races and there was some local talent out. Nick Roberts from Osceola placed third in compact cars. Another local competing was Chris Wize from Benedict, who competed in the stock car category.
