Young Patriots Learn About Our Country and Patriotism

During the four days after Memorial Day, 25 third, fourth and fifth graders from the Osceola area met for Young Patriots Week. The program is sponsored by the Osceola American Legion, and is led by Deb Anderson, Diana Langer, Marji Cloeter, Linda Anderson and Miranda Ericson.

Flags Fly Due to Donors’ Efforts

In a joint effort among the Osceola Community Action Group, the American Legion Memorial Committee and the Polk County Rural Public Power District, flags will fly along Highway 92/81 through Osceola from Memorial Day until Veterans’ Day.
Osceola Legion Auxiliary hosted the Polk County Convention on Monday June 5th at Post 91. Our entertainment was provided by the Lincoln Continental Barbershop singers. Twenty three gentlemen serenaded us with a variety of music selections. An outstanding performance was given. New county officers are President Pat Everingham, Vice President Becky Carlstrom and Secretary Brenda Pfiefly (not pictured). Photo provided.

Osceola Summer Weights & Open Gym

Boys at 7 AM Girls at 8 AM Middle school at 9 AM (this includes incoming 6th graders) There is a 4:30 PM session Volleyball open gym on Wednesdays, starting June 7th: 7-8 AM high school girls, and 8-9 AM middle school girls Basketball open gym on Mondays and Fridays, high school girls at 9 AM...

Osceola Community Players to Present Play

The Osceola Community Players will present the play “She Was Only Marginally Modest” on Sunday June 25th at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Osceola Auditorium. There is no cost but there will be an opportunity for a free will donation.
Coach Jason Zelasney (JZ) and Coach Webster are on the prowl this summer, catching kids shooting hoops. Similar to “Shoot for a Scoop”, now it’s “Shot for a Pop”. If you are caught, you get a pop or Gatorade. This is for all school age boys and girls that attend Osceola Public Schools. Summer means it’s time for our Summer Reading Programs—and summer hours! Now through August, the library will be open on Thursdays from 12:0—3:00 in addition to our regular hours. Children’s Summer Reading Program starts today—Thursday, June 15 at 10:00!

Author Visits Swedish Festival

Author Jim Campain will be in Stromsburg Saturday, June 17 to sell autographed copies of his new novel “Coming Home Dead”. This book is a historical fictional novel set in World War II era and based off his father’s experiences. War changes families, unfortunately, more than peace.
