Update on Polk County Day Care Situation

A few weeks ago we published an article noting that Polk County needs more day care. We have had some responses and wanted to follow up. Lisa Benson of Shelby works for Providers Network. She helps day care providers get started.

Foundation Starts in Stromsburg

STROMSBURG — A group of people in Stromsburg are motivated to start a foundation, and they are making plans and taking steps to do that. Cale Pallas, Cheri Giannou, Sherry Oberg, Troy Lindsley and Ross Eller are the group who have been meeting to discuss a community foundation.

Shelby-Rising City Competes at CCC in Columbus

Shelby-Rising City FFA has been busy the past few months with National FFA week and District CDEs. FFA members competed at Norfolk on Jan. 26 in Livestock Judging and Floriculture. On Tuesday, Feb. 28 they took 19 members to compete at CCC in Columbus.

Robotics Teams Head to State Competition

Cross County is sending two robotics teams to the 2023 Nebraska State VEX Robotics Championship this weekend in Omaha. Team 5155A (Andrew Dubas, Dane Holtzen and Brett Williams) and Teams 5155E (Marshall Johansen, Sam Haug and Talon Carter) will compete at North High School beginning on Friday.

Ohnemus, Slusarski Qualify for Speech State in Duet Acting

LINCOLN — Shelby-Rising City finished 12th in the team sweepstakes for the NSAA District A-2/C2-1 held at Lincoln Southwest on Saturday with a team score of 64 points. Aurora Slusarski and Gavin Ohnemus finished second in Duet Acting and qualified for State.

The 15th Annual Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center Spring Health Fair was held on Tuesday, March 7th at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center.

Duo Earns FFA Degrees

Congratulations to Alexa Carter and Angel Barnes on receiving their State FFA Degrees! These two girls were interviewed on Feb. 4 and will receive their State Degrees at the Nebraska State FFA Convention on Friday, March 31!

Area Athletes Compete in NAIA Championships

BROOKINGS, S.D.— Area residents participated in the 2023 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championship at Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on the campus of South Dakota State University. The event was Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Josi Noble of Stromsburg was the second leg of Women’s Distance Medley.

Kindergarten Round-Up and Preschool Registration

On Friday, April 14th, Jeffrey Elementary in Osceola will have its Kindergarten round up starting at 9:00 am. Any student that will be starting Kindergarten in the 2023 - 2024 school year are welcome and should attend.

Each year during the month of March we recognize National Nutrition Month. This year’s theme is Fuel for the Future. Here are a few ideas to keep in mind: Eat with the environment in mind. Consider growing your own food in your home or in a backyard garden.
