Notice: Mail is leaving Stromsburg (and probably other area towns) earlier now. The truck now leaves at 10:30 AM instead of 2:30 PM. This week's newspaper will go out tomorrow instead of today. We can't make 10:30 AM very often.

NEBRASKA SENATORThis week, we celebrate National School Choice Week. As Senator, common-sense education policy is a top priority. My mother was a proud Nebraska educator. I know how much Nebraska teachers do for students and families. We saw this especially during the pandemic.

Children’s Immunization Clinics

The Polk County Health Department will have immunization clinics at the Polk County Health Department, Stromsburg, NE, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 1:30 to 3:30, and Monday, February 23, 2026, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. An appointment is required.

February came in cold, but it is warming up a bit, which is nice. Yet, it is winter in Nebraska so we can expect about anything. There actually was enough snow this past weekend that a few snowmen were quickly made, also quickly melted away.

The Polk County Sheriff Dwaine W. Ladwig announces the arrest of an Ohio man following an investigation into the online sexual exploitation of a minor.

Local Couple Presumed Deceased, Two Arrested for Murder

LINCOLN - Monday, the Lincoln Police Department released information that Hannah Neville (age 26) and Roberto Tanner (age 27) of Stromsburg are believed to be deceased. Officer Michon Morrow of LPD reported they arrested Sterling James (age 24) and his wife, Sadie Titus (age 22) of Lincoln.

HPC Hall of Fame Inducts 2 Men & A Team

Two men and one team were inducted into the High Plains Hall of Fame on Saturday. POLK – Saturday between the girls and boys’ basketball game, High Plains honored two individuals and one team by newly inducting them into the HPC Hall of Fame.First was the 1982 Hordville football team.
