Hughes Hits Ground Running

LINCOLN — The new legislative session kicked off last week and newly elected State Senator Jana Hughes is hitting the ground running. Hughes joined the other 48 senators on Wednesday, Jan. 4 for the first day of the session. The first five days saw more than 250 bills introduced.

2023 Baby Boy Born at Annie Jeffrey’s

Annie Jeffrey Health Center is pleased to welcome Thurston Lyndon Anderson as the New Year baby of 2023. Thurston was born January 6th, and is the son of Beka and Clay Anderson of Columbus, Nebraska. He will be welcomed home by brother Reuben, age 3 and sister Agnes, age 16 months.

Council Discusses Old High School

STROMSBURG — The Stromsburg City Council approved a special use permit on the Old High School Building. The council gave its approval on Monday, clearing the way for Bob Berggren and Russell Cleland to continue renovations at the property.

School Board OKs Teacher Contracts

STROMSBURG — An agreement has been met. The Cross County Board of Education voted on Monday to accept the 2023-2024 teacher contract. The board unanimously approved the agreement. Board President Kurt Moore said that negotiations wrapped up last month.

STROMSBURG — Be sure to go to the Cross County versus David City basketball games with an appetite. The Cross County Booster Club is holding a Chili Cook-Off and Fund-raiser on Friday at the game from 5-7 p.m. Sample all the chili in the competition and vote for your favorite.
