Immunization Clinics Dec. 14, 19

The Polk County Health Department will hold immunization clinics at the Polk County Health Department in Osceola on Wednesday, December 14th from 1:30 to 3:30 and Monday, December 19th from 3:30 to 5:30. An appointment is required for compliance to the COVID-19 directives.

Area Photographer Gets Photo Published

STROMSBURG — For many years, April Stevens has been a fan of Queen. Some time ago she found out Queen member Brian May does 3-D photography. She has purchased several of his books with 3-D photos. So she decided to try it herself.

Polk County was hit with the first true snowfall of the season this week. Tuesday morning started with a freezing rain and sleet. By mid-morning the freezing rain turned over to a blowing snow.

County Elects New County Attorney

OSCEOLA — Polk County is losing our attorneys. Polk County attorney Ronald Colling will be hanging up his hat soon, as well as Stromsburg city attorney Jim Papik. That left some towns looking for a new city/ village attorney and the county looking for one also.

Cross County Academic Awards

Cross County awarded medals to those who scored high on their NSCAS testing for last year. Those who received more than one gold medal received a plaque.

Lung Cancer Screening Saves Lives

By Daniel G Petereit, MD, FABS, FASTRO This year nearly 250,000 patients will be diagnosed with lung cancer and 130,000 will die from it. In SD, 660 people will be diagnosed and over 400 will die from the disease. Lung cancer accounts for the most cancer deaths in both the US and in SD.
