Birthday Card Shower

The family of Rose Anderson would like to honor Rose’s 95th birthday on November 2nd with a Card Shower. Cards may be sent to Rose at 12947 E. Road, Clarks, NE 68628. Rose was married to Reuben and they raised two sons, Dennis (Jeanie) of Polk and Larry (Debra) of Marquette.

Immunization Clinics Nov. 9, 21

The Polk County Health Department will hold immunization clinics at the Polk County Health Department in Osceola on Wednesday, November 9th from 3:30 to 5:30 and Monday, November 21st from 3:30 to 5:30. An appointment is required for compliance to the COVID-19 directives.

Mountain Lion Lottery Application Period

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will accept lottery applications for mountain lion permits November 7 – December 14, 2022, for the 2023 hunting season. Permits are available only to Nebraska residents, who may have one permit per calendar year.

Minimum Wage Increase Affects Small Businesses

In less than three weeks, Nebraskans will vote on a minimum wage increase. The current minimum wage for non-students is $9 per hour. The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. Minimum wage does not apply to tipped employees, some student workers and other exempt occupations.

Koinzan Wins Football Contest For Week Seven

Dennis Koinzan of Stromsburg is this week’s Polk County News Football Contest winner! He only missed four games, and was the closest on the tie breaker. Runners-up also missing four were Mike Recker and Pat Recker, both of Osceola. It came down to the tie breaker with number of touchdowns.

Cross County FCCLA Attends District Conference

District #4 Leadership Conference “Find Your Spark with FCCLA.” was held on Wednesday, October 5 Hastings’ Central Community College campus. In attendance were more than 260 FCCLA members coming from Doniphan Trumbull, Bruning Davenport, Cross County, Fillmore Central, Sutton and Exeter Milligan.

Enjoying the Leaves Changing Colors

Colleen Pallas from Nebraska Extension visited the classroom recently and assisted in their first Project Learning Tree session! The students learned why leaves change color, what leaves look like on different trees, and even got to color their our own leaves to make a tree for the classroom!
