BRAN Stops in Shelby

Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN) stopped in Shelby on Friday, June 10. About 350 riders make the trek starting in Alliance on June 5th and ending in Wahoo on June 11th to cover approximately 400 miles. This trip takes a week, and they ride an average of 60 miles a day.

“Cat’s in the Cradle” Father’s Day

The haunting refrains of Harry Chapin’s song “Cat’s in the Cradle,” like “planes to catch and bills to pay … when you coming home, dad?” started to play in my mind recently. A Fortune 500 company recruiter asked to join me in my office after a day of on-campus interviewing.

Gresham Library

Gresham Library will have summer reading on Saturdays in June and July. Summer reading will include story hour, crafts, guest speakers, science experiments, prizes and more! This is open to all ages of children.

GRESHAM LOCALS

The Gresham community was saddened by the loss of longtime Gresham resident, Polly (Cain) Coon, who passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at the age of 56 years. Polly graduated from Gresham High School in 1983, the last class to graduate from GHS.

Polk’s July 1st Celebration

Polk will have a celebration on July 1st filled with food, fun and fireworks. Bounce houses for kids from 5:30-9 p.m. Water games at 6 p.m. Food served from 6-8:30 p.m. with a free will donation. Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. Bring your own lawn chair. A fundraiser for fireworks will be a raffle.

Polk Senior Center

Stromsburg won the county pitch trophy last Monday afternoon. This Tuesday is Flag Day; be sure to display your flag proudly. Long may it wave! There is card playing on Tuesday and dominoes on Wednesday afternoons in our center. Come and join us for laughter, fun, coffee and companionship.

Polk Library News

From the fishing hole he caught Peter, Benchly and Herman Melville. He had quite the catch! The Polk Public Library hosted “Splash of Magic” by magician Jeff Quinn on June 8th. His magic show was attended by 20 youngster and 10 “oldsters”. He kept everyone in stitches during his entire program.
