Shelby-Rising City boys traveled to McCool Junction to take on a tough team. The game started pretty evenly with the Huskies putting up 4 points in the first quarter and the Mustangs had 7. The Huskies had a better second quarter than the Mustangs adding 9 points to 4, making the half time score 13-11 in Shelby’s favor.
The Huskies added twice as many points as the Mustangs in the third quarter with 8 points to their 4. The fourth quarter was hard fought with Shelby just edging out McCool with 17 points to their 16. Final score was 38-31 with the Huskies scoring the win.
High scorers were Gavin Dutton-Mofford with 16 points, Isaac Whitmore with 11 and Gabe Dutton-Mofford added 9. Gabe pulled down 9 rebounds with Hunter White grabbing 7.
Coach Gabel had these comments: “Our bench was very thin going into both games this weekend. Going into this game our game plan was centered around keeping their post players from beating us on the inside; we did just that and lucky for us they had a bad shooting night. Rebounding was big for us, we were able to get some extra possessions on the offensive end and we limited them. In the end we hit some big shots down the stretch and was able to close out the game from the free throw line.”
