Bulldogs placed third at Clarkson, defeating Meridian 74-29 and then losing to Clarkson 33-31. The Dawgs led most of the game against Clarkson until the final quarter. High scorers against Meridian were Bartley Nelson with 17, Chris Hays with 11 and Jesse Swantek with 10. Against Clarkson, Nelson had 16 and Hays 8.

The Osceola Bulldogs clinched the Central Eight Conference Championship title last Satur day. The Lady Bulldogs placed third at the Central Eight Conference Tournament. Doerr once again led the winners in the consolation game with 13 points and 4 rebounds.

Rick and Elisa Watts are the parents of a son, Spencer Earl, born January 11 at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Hospital. Cindy Hays became the all time leading women’s college basketball scorer in Nebraska January 11 at the 11:54 mark in the first half of the Midland Lutheran College vs. Mount Marty game at Fre mont. Hays, a 6” 1’ senior center, broke the record on an eight foot jump shot and went on to score a total of 26 points in Midland’s 81-59 victory. Hays, who is also the Nebraska high school girls all time leading scorer with 2,077 points, increased her college ca reer total to 2,243 points.
Jessica Ann Gabel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Gabel, was baptized Sunday, January 12 at St. Vincent Catholic Church by Father Peter Gadient.

The Polk County Law Library, located on the third floor of the courthouse, was recently enlarged by the addition of more than 800 volumes from the private law li brary of District Judge William H. Norton.
Nathan Boruch, Jon Ransom, Ryan Belt, Andy Mentink and Davie Adamczyk helped Matthew Roberts celebrate his 6th birthday at a party Wednesday. The OHS matmen improved their dual record Tuesday night to 7-0 with a 34-27 win over the Palmer Tigers. Larry LeSuer set a school record in his weight class with a pin in :32 seconds. The old record was :47.

Installed as officers of the lo cal IOOF Lodge Monday eve ning were Glen Hendrickson, N.G., Charles Roberts, V.G.; Ray Conrad, secretary and Albert Schmoker, treasurer.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Theis and family and Mrs. Lee Rein visited Mr. and Mrs. Mark Dahmke and Mark in David City Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Milan Snod grass and Mildred Snodgrass left Thursday by plane for Anaheim, California to attend the silver wedding anniversary observance of Mr and Mrs. Lee Snodgrass.

E. C. Shott, A. C. Schott, Ralph Watts and Rex Wieseman were among those attending a cattle sale last week in Winner, South Dakota. E.C. Schott and Watts each bought a load of cattle from Don Hight, the South Dakota rancher who had driven his herd of 1800 cattle eighty miles across the prairie to market to save trucking expenses.
A Parent/Teacher Association was formed here Tuesday evening. Ninety persons attended the meeting which was conducted by Betty Majors, Polk County Super intendent of Schools, with Marian Cotter acting as secretary.
Misses Kay Watts, AnnEtte Watts and Mirian Carlson were hostesses at a miscellaneous shower Saturday evening for Miss Annitta Johnson, whose wedding to Robert Pickard will be a February 10th event.

Mrs. Carl Wieseman entertained a group of friends and relatives at a dessert tea Tuesday afternoon which followed a baby shower honoring Mrs. Robert Wieseman.
The postal transportation ser vice in Omaha has announced that mail service through Osceola will be handled by motor truck on and after January 28,1952. The Coffeehousers met Monday evening in the home of Dr. and Mrs. Wallace Monson. Four tables of bridge were in play and Mr. and Mrs. Clair Emmons were guests.

County Treasurer Leroy Smith tendered his resignation to the county board to accept a position as auditor with a Columbus bank effective February 1. Carleton Anderson, present deputy treasur er, was appointed to the vacancy and Ruth Stewart was appointed deputy.
Reynold Peterson is recovering at home from a broken leg which he sustained last Wednesday while felling trees at the Walter Jones farm.
One of the first casualties caused by the restriction on sale of tires was the truck which delivers clean towels and soap to Osceola businesses each week. Notice has been served to customers that the service will be discontinued February 1.
