Storm Fall 58-16, No Raining on Eagles Homecoming Game

BRUNING — High Plains could not play spoiler to Bruning- Davenport/Shickley’s Homecoming game Friday to open the season, falling 58-18.

The Storm managed just 217 yards of total offense in the game, with 172 yards coming on the ground.

Marino finished with 23 yards on 6 carries. Sophomore Gage Friesen led the offense with 64 yards on 10 carries. Mario Lesiak ran the ball 10 times for 55 yards.

Wyatt Urkoski caught three passes for 27 yards and Friesen hauled in two passes for 18 yards.

Friesen, sophomore Raul Marino and junior Gavin Morris scored rushing touchdowns for the Storm.

On defense, Urkoski led the team with 14 tackles. Friesen added 11 tackles. Sophomores Haden Helgoth, Ayden Hans and Kaden Rieken all finished with 7 tackles apiece.

High Plains (0-1) returns home on Friday to take on Central Valley (1-0). The Cougars defeated Fullerton 32-30 to open the season. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
