Robert Joe Marrs, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away at the age of 75 on November 19, 2023.

A graveside memorial service will be held Friday, May 24, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, NE, with Rev. Gene Purcell and Rev. Lane Purcell officiating. Military Rites by North Platte Veterans Honor Guard, Nebraska Patriot Riders, and Marine Corps Flag Presentation. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Best Western Plus in North Platte.

Robert was born January 18, 1948 in Arnold, NE to Marie L. (Lindholm) and John D. Marrs. Joe attended grade schools in Arnold and Gothenburg. The family moved to California in 1955 where he attended schools in Norco and Glen Avon. While living in California he was hit by a car causing scars to his cheek, chin and hand. The family returned to Nebraska in 1960, first in Stuart then Elwood where he graduated high school May 22, 1967. After graduation he moved to Denver, where he enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corp in August 1967. He served in Khe Sahn Vietnam until April 6, 1968, where he was severely injured and disabled for life. He was honorably discharged and retired with the rank of Lance Corporal on July 20, 1968. Joe was a Purple Heart recipient, and also received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal and a Presidential Unit Citation.

After retirement he attended vocational school in Hastings. He returned to Denver where he lived for several years before moving to San Diego. CA. He was united in marriage to Alice M. Taylor in June of 1996 in Las Vegas, NV. They divorced in 2008. They had no children. Joe lived in the same apartment in Las Vegas for over 27 years.

Joe loved his family and all of his many friends, loud music (outlaw country), sports and was an avid collector of Magic Johnson memorabilia. He was a beloved brother, uncle, great uncle, and great-great uncle. He had six first cousins, four Purcells, Linda, Debbie, Gene and Lane of Arnold, Dan and Tony Marrs of Lake Jackson, TX and several cousins by marriage.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ernest and Kathryn Marrs of Nelson, Anne and Carl Larson of Arnold and North Platte, Ira and Olive Ready of Stromsburg; his parents John (Aileen) Marrs of Stromsburg and Marie (Louis) Hoag of Stromsburg and Denver; brother Don Jackson of New Hope, AL; and sister Marla Jane (Joni) Bauer of Denver; and special friend Margaret Ann.

Survivors include sisters: Cheryl (Bob) Baker of Aurora, CO, Caryl (Larry) Colson of Stromsburg; nieces Lori (Rod) Guthard of Kearney, Kristi (Mike) Stewart of Omaha, Natalie Cruz of Aurora, CO, Rayell (Jon) King of Stromsburg, Victoria Jackson of FL; nephews Chris (Michelle) Carwin of Thornton, CO, Anthony (Brittney) Hoyt of McCool Junction, and Eric Jackson of Warner Robbins, GA; extended family Adriane, Nate, Amaya, Eric and Surae; his best buddy Junior; caregiver Alice M. Taylormarrs; and a host of other relatives and friends.
