Letters to the Editor
I am a resident of Osceola, Nebraska and reader of The Polk County News. Since moving to this area, I have always enjoyed reading it in the past format and also now, the new format and Opinion page — I read them all. I appreciate the time that is takes to think, write, and edit a column like that!
I do not want bypasses at all — not in any of the three towns. Talk about “Death By Bypass” for small towns. All three towns are unique and extraordinary in their own way (and residents of each town would also point out problems as well!). With a bypass, outsiders would never “accidentally” know about a festival, or a modern grocery, much less the coffee shops, clothing stores, historical buildings, and more. The three-lane would help with turning lanes, but outsiders would still be exposed to what the towns have to offer.
Don’t get me started on roundabouts which are by far the most confusing “solution” for traffic, ever. I hope that plenty of research is done as far as cost vs. actual need. I had a conversation with my husband, who is a truck driver and has driven on plenty of roundabouts, and he thinks, if done correctly are a good idea. Again, does the need justify the cost and confusion?
Just reporting in as requested!
Thanks for all you do,
BONNIE LACY
