Slammers 2-1 at Wisner Invite

WISNER — The Polk County Slammers went 2-1 at the Wisner Invite over the weekend. The Slammers opened play with a 9-0 win over Logan View/ Scribner-Snyder on Saturday. Courtney Sunday scattered 4 hits across 5 innings, striking out 4 batters to get the win.

Lady Bulldogs Split First Triangular

OSCEOLA — The Lady Bulldogs opened their volleyball season hosting a triangular with Palmer and Heartland on Thursday. The first game featured the Lady Bulldogs and the Palmer Lady Tigers. Osceola won this game in two sets, 25-14 and 25-13. The next game featured Heartland and Palmer.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Kale Gustafson accounted for nearly 92 percent of the Osceola offense on Friday night in the Bulldogs 62-8 win over Diller- Odell. He rushed for 189 yards and 5 touchdowns and threw for another touchdown. The junior also finished the game with 8.5 tackles and an interception.

LINCOLN — The Polk County Slammers won four games in a three-day stretch to start the season, going unbeaten at the Freeman Invite in Lincoln Saturday after an opening-night win Thursday over Highway 91.

Color Run Fund-raiser for Girls’ Basketball Team Set

OSCEOLA — Ready, set, go. The Osceola girls’basketball team is making preparations for a color run in September. The 5K walk/run will take place Saturday, Sept. 24 at 8:30 a.m. Registration is from 7:30-8:15 a.m. Sign-up by Sept. 8 to guarantee a T-shirt for the event.
