Area Students Qualify for Speech State

Polk County speech teams are heading to Kearney for the State speech meet this week. Cross County (C1) and Shelby-Rising City (C2) will compete on Thursday, while High Plains (D1) and Osceola (D1) will compete on Friday. All competition will take place at Kearney High School.

Churches Discuss Future Denomination Affiliation

As members of The United Methodist Church (UMC) debate the church’s stance on human sexuality, some congregations are considering whether they wish to leave the denomination. Recently many UMC parishes have voted on whether to stay with the denomination or leave.

SRC Students Travel to East Coast for WorldStrides Spring Break Trip

SHELBY — A group of 17 Shelby-Rising City juniors and seniors have returned home from a Spring Break trip that took them through different periods in American History. The group left Tuesday, March 7 and did not return until Sunday, March 12. They traveled to Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Pa.

Governor Pillen Calls Upon PSC to Focus on Rail Safety

LINCOLN, NE – Governor Jim Pillen reacted to media reports that the Nebraska Public Service Commission has failed to employ a railroad track safety inspector for two decades. He is calling on the agency to refocus efforts to protect public safety.

Free Yoga Class for Beginners coming to Osceola March 24

The Polk County Health Dept, Four Corners Health Dept., and Polk County Senior Services are hosting a Free Yoga Class For Beginners. The class is March 24 at 1 p.m. St Vincent Catholic Hall, Osceola. This is an opportunity to learn about Yoga, or get reacquainted with Yoga.

Shelby-Rising City Competes at CCC in Columbus

Shelby-Rising City FFA has been busy the past few months with National FFA week and District CDEs. FFA members competed at Norfolk on Jan. 26 in Livestock Judging and Floriculture. On Tuesday, Feb. 28 they took 19 members to compete at CCC in Columbus.
