Area Students Can Spell S-U-C-C-E-S-S

OSCEOLA — Wednesday, February 22nd was the annual Polk County Spelling Bee held at the Osceola High School new gym. The morning competition was for fifth and sixth graders, and afternoon for seventh and eighth graders.

Sign-up for Preschool in Shelby in March

Shelby-Rising City preschool registration begins March 1. Requirements include: Official state certified birth certificate, immunization records, be 3-years-old by Aug. 1 for the morning class and be 4-years-old by Aug. 1 for the afternoon class.

Students Visit the Senior Center

Members of the third, fourth and fifth grades sang Valentine Songs and shared poems with the Senior Center last week on Valentine's Day! Their singing voices were amazing and the poems were delightful.

Twelve couples celebrated World Marriage Day on February 12 at Sacred Heart Church in Shelby, with Father Andrew Litt officiating. Honored couples were Don & Bonnie Augustin & Roger & Sandy Gabel, who will be celebrating 50 years of marriage this year.

Health Department moving to Stromsburg

STROMSBURG — The Polk County Health Department will soon have a new home. Polk County is in the process of purchasing the old Yungdahl’s Apothecary building in Stromsburg, which is located on the Square at 313 Commercial St. The county is set to close on the building April 1.
