Shelby-Rising City Competes at CCC in Columbus

Shelby-Rising City FFA has been busy the past few months with National FFA week and District CDEs. FFA members competed at Norfolk on Jan. 26 in Livestock Judging and Floriculture. On Tuesday, Feb. 28 they took 19 members to compete at CCC in Columbus.

Ohnemus, Slusarski Qualify for Speech State in Duet Acting

LINCOLN — Shelby-Rising City finished 12th in the team sweepstakes for the NSAA District A-2/C2-1 held at Lincoln Southwest on Saturday with a team score of 64 points. Aurora Slusarski and Gavin Ohnemus finished second in Duet Acting and qualified for State.

Duo Earns FFA Degrees

Congratulations to Alexa Carter and Angel Barnes on receiving their State FFA Degrees! These two girls were interviewed on Feb. 4 and will receive their State Degrees at the Nebraska State FFA Convention on Friday, March 31!

Area Athletes Compete in NAIA Championships

BROOKINGS, S.D.— Area residents participated in the 2023 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championship at Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on the campus of South Dakota State University. The event was Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Josi Noble of Stromsburg was the second leg of Women’s Distance Medley.

National Nutrition Month

Each year during the month of March we recognize National Nutrition Month. This year’s theme is Fuel for the Future. Here are a few ideas to keep in mind: Eat with the environment in mind. Consider growing your own food in your home or in a backyard garden.

Library Gifted 100 New Books

The Shelby Community Library just received a gift of 100 new children’s books, ranging from pre-kindergarten through early readers.

Sign-up for Preschool in Shelby in March

Shelby-Rising City preschool registration begins March 1. Requirements include: Official state certified birth certificate, immunization records, be 3-years-old by Aug. 1 for the morning class and be 4-years-old by Aug. 1 for the afternoon class.

Blood Pressure Clinics

Clinics to monitor blood pressure will also be held at the Polk County Health Department in Osceola, every 1st and 3rd Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary. Walk-ins are welcome any day during office hours.

For those interested in joining Polk County 4-H mark your calendars for Thursday afternoon, March 16! From 4-6 p.m. that day, at Gathering Grounds Coffee Shop, you can enroll in 4-H, get a sneak peak of the upcoming summer workshops, and get a free smoothie just for enrolling!
