  TEN YEARS AGO September 6, 2012 During halftime of the Shelby- Rising City football games the Booster Club sponsors a contest to see if participants can throw the football through the hole in a football target.

September is College Savings Month

LINCOLN — Governor Pete Ricketts is calling attention to the importance of saving for a loved one’s future education by issuing a proclamation declaring September as College Savings Month.

Area residents Attend Nebraska Republican Convention

Report from Joe Rystrom, Delegate Grass roots movement bring changes to Nebraska GOP. It was an exciting time full of unexpected events. To begin with there were more people there than have been to the convention in many years. Many of the delegates were first-timers.

BARGAIN SHOPPING

This last weekend was an event called “Bargains for You on 92”. It was put together by Sheri Steager of Surprise with help from ten other people, including Denise Andersen of Osceola, Maxine Goelz of Shelby, Lori Pesicka Frasch of Shelby and Ashley Eickmeier of Rising City.

Area 4-H’ers on Display at State Fair

GRAND ISLAND — Polk County is well represented at the Nebraska State Fair. Over the weekend, 4-H projects were judged and fashion and livestock shows took place. Projects are now on display. The 4-H exhibits open every day at 10 a.m. in the FFA 4-H Building.

Christmas Sales Opportunity

Attention crafters, direct sales people and antique dealers: Saturday, December 3rd will be a sales opportunity at the American Legion in Shelby from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $30 for your 8 x 8 space including two chairs. Bring your own table! Additional fee for table rental.

Library News

Local Nebraska Author Alena Mentink will present a FREE program, on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 11 am. at Shelby Community Library. Free coffee and tea will be available. Alena Mentink is a Nebraska author who enjoys mixing history with fictional characters to create a story for God’s glory.
