Cross County hosted the Malcolm Clippers last Saturday. These two teams played equally almost the entire game, and it seemed to come down to when the buzzer would sound. It easily could’ve gone into overtime.
The first quarter started with each team putting up 12 points, so they were tied at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter went very similarly, although Cross County was able to get a small lead with a score of 25-23 at half time.
The third and fourth quarters Malcolm just outscored the Cougars by a few points leading to a resulting game score of 57-55. With only 8 seconds left, Malcolm got a free throw, and then the Cougars tried getting it back down for a last-second shot, but a pass was intercepted by a Clipper just as the buzzer went off. This was a heartbreaking first loss for the Cougars.
Leading scorer for the Cougars was Cory Hollinger putting in 27 points. There was a threeway tie for second most points with Haiden Hild, Alex Noyd and Damon Mickey all putting in 7. Hollinger also rebounded well pulling down 8 on defense and 4 on offense for a total of 12.
