Cross County School Board Report

Cross County School board is looking at adding a large livestock facility. Plans were unveiled at Monday’s meeting. A graphic showed the proposed layout for the building and grounds. This would add a 10,000 square foot building and 20,000 square feet of holding areas.

Marsden Auto Says Goodbye

STROMSBURG – “It’s time,” says Ronal Marsden, owner of Marsden’s Auto Clinic. The shop will close for good on Friday, December 29th after 36-and-ahalf years of operation. Marsden is looking forward to retirement. “It’s a matter of slowing down,” he said.

Stromsburg

Veterans’ Day services were held at Cross County Schools on Thursday, November 9th. They were moved from Friday to Thursday after hopes of a football playoff game on Friday, which turned out not to be needed. Quilts of valor were presented to five people who have served in the armed forces.

Inspiration Speaker with Local Ties to Speak at Veterans’ Day Program

Jon A. Rystrom, a Stromsburg 1973 graduate passed away in 1993 at the age of 38 while serving in the Navy. His aircraft crashed off the coast of Italy. His body, along with the other four crew members’ bodies, were never found. He left a wife and two daughters.

Solar Array Installed Near Stromsburg

STROMSBURG —Polk County Rural Public Power District broke ground on a new 1MW solar site on February 17, 2023. The array’s power will be distributed directly to Polk County RPPD’s customer-owners in the form of low fixed-cost energy.

Nursing Homes Given an Additional Requirement

At the beginning of September, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued new staffing standards for nursing homes and long-term care (LTC) facilities. They want nursing homes to provide safe and quality care for the residents in Medicare and Medicaid-certified LTC facilities.

Osceola Author Shares Her Struggles

Saturday Bonnie Lacy of Osceola presented her struggles with writing and publishing at the Stromsburg Library. She has been interested in opportunities like this but wasn’t sure how to contact libraries. She found the Nebraska Library Commission, which has a list of the 276 libraries in Nebraska.

The Polk County Historical Society hosted a quilt and art show at the museum on Sunday afternoon. Approximately 50 visitors came to view the art and quilts. There were 15 quilts and several pieces of art from eight local artists.
