Solar Array Installed Near Stromsburg

STROMSBURG —Polk County Rural Public Power District broke ground on a new 1MW solar site on February 17, 2023. The array’s power will be distributed directly to Polk County RPPD’s customer-owners in the form of low fixed-cost energy.

Nursing Homes Given an Additional Requirement

At the beginning of September, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued new staffing standards for nursing homes and long-term care (LTC) facilities. They want nursing homes to provide safe and quality care for the residents in Medicare and Medicaid-certified LTC facilities.

Osceola Author Shares Her Struggles

Saturday Bonnie Lacy of Osceola presented her struggles with writing and publishing at the Stromsburg Library. She has been interested in opportunities like this but wasn’t sure how to contact libraries. She found the Nebraska Library Commission, which has a list of the 276 libraries in Nebraska.

The Polk County Historical Society hosted a quilt and art show at the museum on Sunday afternoon. Approximately 50 visitors came to view the art and quilts. There were 15 quilts and several pieces of art from eight local artists.

A few months ago we published an article on senior Tyler Shoup with his detailing business. Recently we have heard about two other enterprising seniors: Brett Williams and his commercial graphic and digital design business and Addie Linn and her cleaning and organizing business.

Fire Burns Hay at Dairy

If you think you smelled something funny Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, you probably did. This wasn’t from the Canada fires. The Nuttelman Dairy near Stromsburg had a fire mid-afternoon Wednesday when some hay bales exploded and started on fire.

Teresa Ball of Stromsburg has retired after 41 years of in-home child care. In addition she has served her church as Sunday School teacher and Wednesday evening activities for preschoolers. She still serves in this capacity at her church. She has a heart for little ones.

New Beauty Business in Stromsburg

Beauty on Demand Esthetics is now open in Stromsburg, located at 117 East 4th Street. B.O.D. Esthetics was established in 2019 by Emily Pogue. Emily worked at a spa in Omaha for four years while also building this business.
