CC Robotics Win Sportsmanship

STROMSBURG – Cross County hosted their robotics tournament on Saturday. Originally it was scheduled to be VEX and open, dividing the large gym in half with VEX on one side and open on the other.

DeWitt Selected for Honor Band

Congratulations to Tony DeWitt for being selected to the University of Nebraska at Kearney Honor Band. Tony will be performing Monday, January 29th in the all day clinic and concert in the evening. Tony plays trumpet in the Cross County Band.

Backpack Program Quietly Serves Families

There are 86 local kids not going hungry this holiday season thanks to the Backpack Program. The Backpack Program, originating in Lincoln, is locally sponsored by A Place At the Table Inc.

Lauran Ostberg, Stromsburg librarian, is fairly new to her job with just a year as librarian. She had an idea for a Christmas open house at the library, having previously worked at a bank, she knew banks often had these.

Grocery Store Damaged in Vehicle Accident, No Injuries

Polk County News About 10 AM on Thursday morning, Joan Sterup was driving her 2006 Lincoln Zephyr northbound on Commercial Street, going to park. When she went to park she hit the accelerator instead of the brake, jumping two curbs and hitting the Economy Hometown Market in Stromsburg.

Cross County School Board Report

Cross County School board is looking at adding a large livestock facility. Plans were unveiled at Monday’s meeting. A graphic showed the proposed layout for the building and grounds. This would add a 10,000 square foot building and 20,000 square feet of holding areas.

Marsden Auto Says Goodbye

STROMSBURG – “It’s time,” says Ronal Marsden, owner of Marsden’s Auto Clinic. The shop will close for good on Friday, December 29th after 36-and-ahalf years of operation. Marsden is looking forward to retirement. “It’s a matter of slowing down,” he said.

Stromsburg

Veterans’ Day services were held at Cross County Schools on Thursday, November 9th. They were moved from Friday to Thursday after hopes of a football playoff game on Friday, which turned out not to be needed. Quilts of valor were presented to five people who have served in the armed forces.

Inspiration Speaker with Local Ties to Speak at Veterans’ Day Program

Jon A. Rystrom, a Stromsburg 1973 graduate passed away in 1993 at the age of 38 while serving in the Navy. His aircraft crashed off the coast of Italy. His body, along with the other four crew members’ bodies, were never found. He left a wife and two daughters.
