Round and Round We Go

Last week the Nebraska State Highway Commission received an update on the status of the U.S. 81 construction project.

When Stats Bite You

It may shock you to find out, but I a little bit of a nerd. I love looking at numbers and stats. Here is a stat for you: Each week the Polk County News picks one boy and one girl as its Athlete of the Week. Most weeks Beth and I are picking and the athlete to choose is obvious.

Unpacking the Boxes

Do you ever feel like you are living out of a bunch of boxes? Well, last weekend my family moved to our new home, the apartment above the Worldwide PCN Headquarters. We had so much help from our church family.

Make a Plan For Success

A new year brings many opportunities. It is a good time to take a personal inventory of how things are going in your life. What are some things you want to change? Personally, I would love to lose a little weight this year.

Resolve to Be Better

The final few moments of 2022 are ticking away and pretty soon we will be switching the calendars to 2023. Each year people make resolutions, some to lose weight, others to find a new job. No matter the resolution, just be better. Make this year better than last year.

Christmas Fever

It is 5 a.m. on Tuesday. Normally I am still tucked in my bed sleeping for a few more hours. Not this week. It’s Christmas Week. When you pick up this week’s edition of the Polk County News you will notice that it is a little bit bigger than a normal week.

What to do with the Baby?

My family is not perfect. Far from it. If you were walking near our apartment you may hear a little girl screaming because she was told to go clean her room. You may hear a little boy whine because he was told it was bedtime. You would think they were being taken out to the city gates and stoned.

The Reason for the Season

As a father of four small kids, Christmas is a fun time in the Holtz House. One thing that my wife and I have done over the years is make sure our kids understand the true meaning of Christmas.

I Broke His Little Heart

I broke Charlie’s heart over the weekend. But it had to be done. As the five or six of you who read my column regularly will know I have four kiddos running around at home. Charlie is my 4-year-old and he thinks he is going on 18.

Be Thankful For Everything

November is upon us and as we inch closer to the end of the month many people will begin to think about the different things that they are thankful for. But I have a challenge for you. Don’t wait until Nov. 24 and Thanksgiving to think about the things you are thankful for.
