Cougars open season with 64-12 win

STROMSBURG – Tanner Hollinger scored on three pass receptions from Lucas Jacobsen during a seven-minute span in the first period and Jacobsen scored three rushing touchdowns of his own during a seven-minute span in the second quarter as Cross County blitzed visiting Sutton 64-12 Friday night.

Cougars open season with a split

FULLERTON — The Cougars opened the volleyball season with a split on the road. Cross County lost to Sutton 25-19, 27-25 before bouncing back for a 25-16, 25-23 win over Fullerton. Sutton also defeated Fullerton 25-21, 25-14 in the opening match of the night.

Cross County volleyball has high hopes after getting to the state tournament last year. Coach Emmie Noyd returns for her second year coaching this group of girls. She said the team has set a goal of conference champs and going back to the state tournament.

STROMSBURG – He doesn’t always dominate the stat sheets, but he’s been a winner over 100 times since he began playing sports in high school.

District assignments announced

The Nebraska School Activities Association has announced fall district assignments. Cross County, High Plains, Osceola and Shelby-Rising City athletes now know what schools they will have to compete against for an opportunity to go to state.

Stromsburg 10 and Under Bring Home Runner Up Plaque

HASTINGS – The Cougar 10u softball team finished their season on Sunday at the Class D State tournament at Bill Smith Softball Complex in Hastings. The Cougars (29-8) went 8-2 on the weekend to finish as runner-up in the tournament.

All-Star Volleyball at CCC

COLUMBUS -- Just when they thought volleyball was over, there was one more all-star game. This time Cross County coaches and three Polk County girls played at Central Community College in Columbus.

Slammers Shine One Last Time in All-Star Game

COLUMBUS — Hollywood could not have scripted it better. Two members of the Polk County Slammers, along with three of their coaches, took part in the 17th annual Central Community College All-Star game last week.

Four Boys Qualify for Class C State

Centennial hosted the Class C-6 district track meet on Thursday. Ten teams participated. Cross County came in sixth place scoring 47 points, one point behind Twin River and six points ahead of the host.

Lady Huskies Repeat as District Champs

Centennial hosted the Class C-6 district track meet on Thursday. Ten teams participated. Shelby- Rising City became two-time district champions winning for the second year in a row! They brought in 117 points, which was 38 more than the second-place team (Ord).
