LILLY PETERSON Lilly led the Lady Cougars with 12 kills, 4 blocks and 2 ace serves in their game against Shelby-Rising City. GABE DUTTON-MOFFORD Gabe scored 5 rushing touchdowns and 225 rushing yards. That is the most in Coach Kubik's tenure at SRC.

Cross County Pummels Brownell-Talbot

OMAHA – Cross County made the 92-mile trip to Brownell-Talbot Friday evening. The Raiders got the ball first but couldn’t move it due to the strong Cougar defense. Brayden Schmidtberger got the punt return and ran it in for a touchdown for the first score.

Lady Cougars Pick Up the Win Over SRC

SHELBY – A season ago, a core group of seven players were mainstays on a state-qualifying volleyball team that gave Cross County’s first-year head coach Emmie Noyd a certain comfort level when making out a lineup card.

Cougars Get Their First Win and Try More Passing

STROMSBURG – The idea of an improved aerial attack for Cross County’s varsity football team was no passing fancy for second-year coach Matt Carroll, who examined the skill set of his 2023 offense and hoped for a more balanced scheme.

Slammers Win Championship at Wisner Tourney

WISNER — Not a bad way to spend a Saturday. The Polk County Slammers traveled to Wisner for the NEN Viper Softball Tournament. The Slammers were perfect on the day, opening with a 16-0 win over O’Neill, a 9-4 win over Pierce and capped the championship day with a 10-8 win over the host NEN.

Lady Cougars Open Season with a Split

FULLERTON — The Cougars opened the volleyball season with a split on the road. Cross County lost to Sutton 2519, 27-25 before bouncing back for a 25-16, 25-23 win over Fullerton. Sutton also defeated Fullerton 2521, 25-14 in the opening match of the night.

STROMSBURG – Tanner Hollinger scored on three pass receptions from Lucas Jacobsen during a seven-minute span in the first period and Jacobsen scored three rushing touchdowns of his own during a seven-minute span in the second quarter as Cross County blitzed visiting Sutton 64-12 Friday night.

Cross County volleyball has high hopes after getting to the state tournament last year. Coach Emmie Noyd returns for her second year coaching this group of girls. She said the team has set a goal of conference champs and going back to the state tournament.
