Cougars Come Alive from Long Range, Beat Storm

STROMSBURG — Heading into Saturday’s Crossroads Conference home matchup with High Plains, the Cross County boys varsity basketball team had missed 51 of its previous 58 shots from the 3-point line.
Shelby-Rising City wrestlers had a busy couple of days. On Thursday the Huskies won the 2023 Crossroads Conference Title. On Saturday the team traveled to Kearney for the 2023 NSAA State Dual Championships, where the Huskies finished fourth.

County Clashes at CRC Tournament

BRAINARD — What a way to head into the weekend. The Huskies won the Crossroads Conference Tournament crown on Thursday, edging out nine other teams to take home the wrestling title. Shelby-Rising City finished with 160.0 points to finish first. High Plains finished fourth with 75.0 points.

WAYNE —Wayne State College announced last week that former Cross County standout Cory Hollinger is among the signings and transfers for the upcoming season. Hollinger graduated from Cross County in 2022.

STROMSBURG — Cross County had complete control on Tuesday, dominating Nebraska Lutheran 55-27 for the Cougars 16th win of the year. Ema Dickey Lilly Peterson The Cougars jumped out to a 13-9 lead after the first quarter. They pushed their lead to 10 points at halftime.

Osceola wins CRC title

YORK — The old saying goes: Defense wins championships. The Bulldogs found out the other old saying in the Crossroads Conference title game: You have to hit free throws if you want to win. Osceola defeated Cross County 55-47 on Friday to secure the CRC Title.

Area Wrestlers Back in Action

FREEMAN — Cross County-Osceola traveled to the Freeman Invite on Friday. Devin Nuttelman was crowned the 106-pound champion at the event. He defeated teammate Wyatt Smith in 2:24 in the final round. Nuttelman went 5-0 on the day with five pins.

YORK — It was the matchup fans expected to see on Friday at the Crossroads Conference Tournament. The game just tipped-off three hours earlier than anticipated. Fans would not have been surprised seeing Cross County (15-4) and Bruning-Davenport/Shickley (14-5) face-off at the CRC Tournament.

Class C-2 No. 9 Cougars fall in CRC semifinal

YORK — A big third quarter from the Mustangs was too much for the Cougars to overcome on Thursday. Class C-2 No. 9 Cross County (14-4) fell to Class D-2 No. 6 McCool Junction 39-27 in the semifinal of the Crossroads Conference Tournament on Thursday at the York City Auditorium.
