Slammer Season Ends at State

HASTINGS — Only one team leaves Hastings happy this week. Everyone else leaves with tears in their eyes. Polk County saw its softball season come to an end on Thursday, losing to NEN 12-4 in 6 innings.

Now it's win or go home for the Slammers

HASTINGS — Every game is now an elimination game. Polk County (25-11) lost 8-0 in 6 innings to the No. 2 seed Yutan/Mead (31-1) on Wednesday in the opening round of the Class C State Tournament. Now the Slammers will have to win six games in row if they want to win a State Title.

Comeback Cats

STROMSBURG — Lucas Jacobsen hadn’t been much of a factor during the first three periods of Friday night’s contest with Class D-1 No. 6 Clarkson/Leigh, but in the final minute the Cross County sophomore quarterback made his presence felt in spectacular fashion.

Cougars take down Longhorns, Timberwolves

EXETER — The Cougars are playing their best volleyball at the right time of the season. Bren Lemburg Cross County (20-3) picked up two more wins on Thursday, defeating Exeter-Milligan (15-7) and Dorchester (12-9). The Cougars got past the Timberwolves in two sets, 25-17, 25-23.

Slammers take on Swedes on Saturday

GOTHENBURG —The Slammers are looking for revenge on Saturday in the C-7 District Final. Polk County squares off with No. 7 Gothenberg at noon on Saturday. The Slammers advanced with a wildcard after losing to Central City 5-4 in 8 innings Monday night.

Fans can expect two big matchups this week

No. 2 Cougars take on No. 6 Patriots STROMSBURG — Friday has been circled on Cougars fans’ calendars for weeks. It is a battle of unbeaten teams when Class D-1 No. 6 Clarkson/Leigh (6-0) comes to town to take on Class D-1 No. 2 Cross County (6-0). Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Teams learn path to CRC crown

YORK — The path to a Crossroads Conference Championship is now known. The bracket for the volleyball conference tournament was released on Wednesday. Cross County drew the top seed and will have a bye to the second round on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m.
