State Wrestling Preview

OMAHA– Ten boys and one girl are off to Omaha for state wrestling. This is the pinnacle of their career in an individual sport. For Dakota Gress, a sophomore at High Plains, she is a pioneer for girls’ wrestling. She wrestled last year as a freshman. This year she is state bound with a 28-9 record.

Class C District 1 (CCO) 126: Devin Nuttelman (41-8) placed 2nd and scored 18.0 team points. Champ. Round 1 - Devin Nuttelman (CCO, 41-8) received a bye. Quarterfinal - Devin Nuttelman won by fall over Gage Brown (Thayer Central, 20-14) in 3:07.

Lady Storm Beat Eagles in OT

The High Plains Storm girls beat the Bruning-Davenport Shickley Eagles in a flash on Friday the 9th, after a long, evenly matched battle.

BRAINARD - Six Polk County wrestlers took first place with Shelby-Rising City coming out as conference champion again. Wrestlers that placed include the following: CCO: Devin Nuttelman (132) 1st, Paxton Burke (157) 4th.

Cougars Win Over Storm in County Rematch

POLK – It was an exciting first half of the boy’s game in Polk as Cross County came for the county clash. Even though it was anyone’s game at half, the Cougars game out with the win 68-42, a very similar ending to when these guys met in conference play.

CRETE – Blue River girls and High Plains girls wrestled at subdistricts in Crete. After competing one Shelby-Rising City Blue River girl, Bailey Turpitt and one High Plains girl, Dakota Gress, qualified for districts. Districts will be held in Aurora on Friday.

Lady Cougars Add Three Wins

DAVID CITY – In its two losses, Cross County’s offense went stale for a long stretch and while a furious comeback nearly changed the outcome, it wasn’t quite enough.

Storm Faces Meridian and St. Ed

BOYS The High Plains Storm boys produced a major win over the Meridian Mustangs on Tuesday. The game ended with the Storm team 30 points ahead, 66-36.

HUSKIES REPEAT AS CRC CHAMPS

BRAINARD - Eleven boys’ wrestling teams made the trip to East Butler to compete in conference wrestling. The Crossroads conference only has six wrestling teams, so five more were invited to fill out the tourney and make it more competitive.
