POLK — High Plains hosted the Giltner Hornets on Friday for basketball. Peyton Hofmann The girls came out shooting well getting 16 points for the first quarter, and the Hornets couldn’t get a shot in.

Area Wrestlers Shine at Invites

Wrestling got underway in week one with Shelby-Rising City and Cross County-Osceola competing at the Lakeview Invite on Friday, and High Plains in action at Conestoga on Thursday.

Each week during the school year, the Polk County News will select a male and female Athlete of the Week. DEVIN NUTTELMAN Freshman Devin Nuttelman was the 113 pound champion at both the Lakeview Invite and the Howells-Dodge. He went 7-0 at the two events and has accounted for 54.

Youthful Storm Building Toward Future

POLK — There is a youth movement at High Plains. The girls basketball team is gearing up for a new season and this year’s squad will look to improve on last year’s eight win total.

Area Athletes Named to All-CRC Teams

Volleyball honors continue to roll in for Polk County athletes. Six Polk County volleyball players were selected to the 2022 Crossroads Conference All-Conference first team this year. The conference announced the honors over the weekend.

Area Athletes Earn D2-5 District Honors

The 2022 football season is over, but the accolades are still rolling in. The Bulldogs (8-2) and Storm (3-5) were well represented in the D2-5 District Football Honors, which were announced last week. Six Osceola players were selected to the All-District 1st Team.

Polk County Athletes See Success at College Level

SEWARD — After earning All-State honors in football at Osceola High, getting to the state individual wrestling finals in his Class C weight division, and making the state meet in the pole vault, Kyle Sterup had some choices to make as he thought of a possible college athletic career.
