Storm Advances to Championship Match

POLK — Subdistrict season is here. The Storm fans and players were excited to take on the Nebraska Lutheran Knights again after beating them in regular season play. The Storm started out well in the first set, staying in the lead the whole time.

The paths are set. The Nebraska School Activities Association released subdistrict pairings on Thursday. Now teams across the state know whom they have to go through if they want to advance in the postseason.

NSAA Volleyball, Football Championships on Nebraska Public Media

LINCOLN — November brings NSAA State High School Volleyball and Football championships to Nebraska Public Media. Volleyball championships are Saturday, Nov. 5 with Class D-2 at 9 a.m., followed by Class D-1 at 11 a.m., Class C-2 at 1 p.m., Class C-1 at 3 p.m., Class B at 5 p.m. and Class A at 7 p.

The quest for a state championship picks up this week as three Polk County teams have advanced to the playoffs. Weeping Water at No. 2 Cross County Class D-1 No. 2 Cross County (8-0) will play host to Weeping Water on Thursday.

No. 7 Cougars Win Crossroads Conference Title

YORK — It was back and forth all night. Class C-2 No. 7 Cross County (26-4) defeated Class D-1 No. 5 Bruning-Davenport/Shickley (23-5) on Tuesday night to claim the Crossroads Conference title at the York City Auditorium. It all came down to the fifth set.

Storm Can’t Slow Warrior Run Attack

FULLERTON — High Plains saw its football season come to an end Thursday night, falling 54-28 to Fullerton. The Storm (3-5) end the season on a two-game losing streak and in all likelihood will just miss the playoffs. The official postseason schedule will be released this weekend.

Slammer Season Ends at State

HASTINGS — Only one team leaves Hastings happy this week. Everyone else leaves with tears in their eyes. Polk County saw its softball season come to an end on Thursday, losing to NEN 12-4 in 6 innings.

Now it's win or go home for the Slammers

HASTINGS — Every game is now an elimination game. Polk County (25-11) lost 8-0 in 6 innings to the No. 2 seed Yutan/Mead (31-1) on Wednesday in the opening round of the Class C State Tournament. Now the Slammers will have to win six games in row if they want to win a State Title.
