No. 7 Cougars Win Crossroads Conference Title

YORK — It was back and forth all night. Class C-2 No. 7 Cross County (26-4) defeated Class D-1 No. 5 Bruning-Davenport/Shickley (23-5) on Tuesday night to claim the Crossroads Conference title at the York City Auditorium. It all came down to the fifth set.

Storm Can’t Slow Warrior Run Attack

FULLERTON — High Plains saw its football season come to an end Thursday night, falling 54-28 to Fullerton. The Storm (3-5) end the season on a two-game losing streak and in all likelihood will just miss the playoffs. The official postseason schedule will be released this weekend.

Slammer Season Ends at State

HASTINGS — Only one team leaves Hastings happy this week. Everyone else leaves with tears in their eyes. Polk County saw its softball season come to an end on Thursday, losing to NEN 12-4 in 6 innings.

Now it's win or go home for the Slammers

HASTINGS — Every game is now an elimination game. Polk County (25-11) lost 8-0 in 6 innings to the No. 2 seed Yutan/Mead (31-1) on Wednesday in the opening round of the Class C State Tournament. Now the Slammers will have to win six games in row if they want to win a State Title.

No. 9 Bulldogs Top Storm for County Bragging Rights

OSCEOLA — It was a battle for Polk County supremacy. Osceola (6-1) hosted the High Plains (3-4) on Friday. High Plains got the ball first. Mario Lesiak took off with a big run down the field. Wyatt Urkoski was able to finish their time of possession with a touchdown.

Slammers Punch Ticket to State

GOTHENBURG — Change the maps; Gothenburg has been renamed Slammerville and Courtney Sunday is the mayor. The Polk County Slammers (25-10) punched their first tickets to the Class C 2022 State Softball Championship tournament after sweeping Class C No.

Slammers take on Swedes on Saturday

GOTHENBURG —The Slammers are looking for revenge on Saturday in the C-7 District Final. Polk County squares off with No. 7 Gothenberg at noon on Saturday. The Slammers advanced with a wildcard after losing to Central City 5-4 in 8 innings Monday night.

Fans can expect two big matchups this week

No. 2 Cougars take on No. 6 Patriots STROMSBURG — Friday has been circled on Cougars fans’ calendars for weeks. It is a battle of unbeaten teams when Class D-1 No. 6 Clarkson/Leigh (6-0) comes to town to take on Class D-1 No. 2 Cross County (6-0). Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Kenzie Wruble passed the 500 career kill mark in the match against Meridian. High Plains photo POLK — High Plains picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday, beating Class D-1 No. 7 Meridian and Hampton. The Storm topped the Mustangs, 25-17, 25-23.
