Meet Superintendent Brown, Coming to HPC

Jason Brown, currently the superintendent of Bertrand Community School, will be the new High Plains Community Schools superintendent starting the 202425 school year. “I’m excited to move over to the district and get started at High Plains Community Schools,” he said.

Miracles for Maeleigh Benefit

Maeleigh McConnell, almost 9-year-old daughter of Ryan and Heidi (Zelasney) McConnell suffered a brain bleed when she was just three days old. Maeleigh and her twin Ava were born at 27 weeks old. A shunt was put in her head, and seemed to work fine for about eight years.

Primitive Chicks Selected as Passport Stop

Polk County News Primitive Chicks in Stromsburg has been selected as a Nebraska Passport stop. The Nebraska Passport program is entering its 15th year. There are also 15 bonus stops in addition to the 70 attractions. Primitive Chicks is one of the 70 attractions, and the only one in Polk County.

Photo ID Needed to Vote

Polk County News Nebraska’s new voter ID law, which takes effect in the May 14, 2024, statewide primary, requires Nebraska voters to present a photo ID before voting.

Cross County Boys C2-5 District Winners

COUGARS’ FIRST TRIP TO STATE

STROMSBURG - After a drought lasting longer than this team has been alive, Cross County’s boys basketball team qualified for the state tournament. Cross County has never qualified for boys state basketball. The last time Benedict boys went was 1994. The last time the Stromsburg boys went was 1983.

Shelby-Rising City Speech is CRC Runner-Up

The Shelby-Rising City Huskies were Runner-up at the Crossroads Conference in Hampton on Wednesday, February 21. There are eleven other teams in the conference. Aiden Zimmerman, Gavin Ohnemus, Jorge Chavez, Mackenzie Kuns, and Kreyten Zimmerman were Runner-up in OID.
