POLK COUNTY FAIR KICKS OFF

Although the official start of the fair isn’t until this week, some events happened last week when the building was available. This included archery, a brand new event to the Polk County Fair, as well as horticulture and culinary challenges.

Highway 81 Construction Postponed...Again

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) has recently released information to the city of Stromsburg regarding the construction to take place on highway 81 in Stromsburg and north to the “big corner” (intersection of 81/92). NDOT has split these into two separate projects.

Valuation Protests Filed with County

According to the Polk County Assessor, 73 protests were filed after the recent valuations went out to property owners. Approximately 2/3 of these protests were in Stromsburg. Assessor Jodi Kranz mentioned there is some clean up to do.

Osceola Gets New Fire Engine Due to State Program

Osceola Fire and Rescue is in the process of adding an additional piece of firefighting apparatus. The end result will go by the call sign of Osceola Engine Two. Engine Two is a 2001 BME on a International 4-wheel drive chassis.

Lightning Struck the CVA Elevator

Shelby fire chief Jon Eller reported the Shelby Fire and Shelby Ambulance were dispatched to the east Central Valley Ag elevator in Shelby for a lightning strike on Friday morning, July 7th. This is where a new elevator is being built. The Polk County Sheriff's office was also on scene.

Library News

Game Days The library will be having a fun time playing board games on July 20th at 10am. Invite your friends to come along to play. Come see your friends and play with LEGO’s starting at 10am on July 27th.

Car Show
