Former Husker Lineman Killed in Polk Co. Crash

Former Husker offensive lineman Cole Pensick died in a one-vehicle crash in northeast Polk County. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call Saturday morning about 6:45 a.m. of a vehicle in some trees. The crash occurred at the intersection of 141st and Q roads.

Stromsburg Doubles Ambulance Salaries

STROMSBURG — The city council in Stromsburg voted to give ambulance officers a 100 percent pay increase. They doubled their monthly pay. Currently the chief receives $100 a month, assistant $70 a month, president $50 a month, secretary/treasurer $70 a month and training officer $50 a month.

Cross County Hires Elementary Principal

After interviews with the school board, superintendent Hollinger and teachers, a familiar face will be coming back to Cross County. The school board unanimously voted to approve the hiring of Ken Booth as elementary principal.

LINCOLN — Hayden Lavaley, a junior at Osceola, has won a Nebraska Young Artist Award from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts.

Shelby-Rising City preschool registration has begun. Requirements include: Official state certified birth certificate, immunization records, be 3-yearsold by Aug. 1 for the morning class and be 4-years-old by Aug. 1 for the afternoon class.
