Polk Receives Donations to ‘Save the Bandstand’

POLK — The town of Polk has seen their bandstand deteriorate in recent years. The current bandstand was erected in 1921 and has had minor repairs over the years. Recently a committee formed to “Save the Bandstand.

It’s So Dry. How Dry is it?

The Platte River, or rather Platte Riverbed, is so dry it is not running anywhere. There is a puddle here and there, but no one can fish, go tubing or tanking down the river. We are about five inches below “normal” on rainfall, along with farmers having to irrigate.
Sparrow Publications, LLC, who are the new publishers of the Polk County News, were welcomed to Stromburg by the Chamber. Pictured are Sherry Oberg, Alan Sparrow, Beth Sparrow and Cinda Koinzan. Alan has lived in Stromsburg over 20 years, and Beth over 15 years, so they know the community. Beth has previously worked in publishing at Cookbooks by Morris Press, as a dental secretary for Bryan Dickey, DDS and digitizing at the courthouse before coming to PCN.

Gresham Man Sentenced

Hrolfr Rognirhur, age 38, of Gresham has been sentenced in a case that began with five felony counts of possession of a deadly weapon while being a prohibited person. He was sentenced in York County Court last week.

Blood Pressure Clinics

Clinics to monitor blood pressure will also be held at the Polk County Health Department in Osceola, every 1st and 3rd Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary. Walk-ins are welcome any day during office hours.
