OSCEOLA — The city of Osceola was not the only one celebrating a birthday last weekend. Friday was a day to celebrate the Polk County Courthouse’s 100th year. Polk County Commissioner Jerry Westring gave opening remarks.

OSCEOLA — The Q150 King and Queen were featured in the parade. The criteria included being honorable (served our country or be a member of Legion or Auxiliary), “old timer” (over 85) and civic-minded.

Polk was the place to be Friday night for the July 1 Celebration. Food, fun and fireworks were on the menu as the village celebrated Independence.

Competing at the National FCCLA Conference in San Diego were Ella Cramer and Ava Pruter who placed second in Professional Presentation at the middle school level. Olivia Phillips and Lily Cramer placed in the top ten in their event, Chapter Service Portfolio.

Big Contributions

Andrea’s Family Diner exceeded their goal of raising $1,000 to give to the Osceola Fire Department for the Castlewood Fire Department. Thanks to everyone who ate to help this caue.

TEN YEARS AGO July 5, 2012 The ultimate achievement for the Gresham Blackbirds 14 & under team in the Big 10 League Tournament was defeating the undefeated Clarks Storm, during tournament play. They earned second place.

Sunday visitors of Pat Chapman were her daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Gary Schumacher of Lindsey. Our community was saddened by the loss of long-time Gresham resident, Carol Dey, 87 years old. Carol had moved to an assisted living residence in Lincoln just a couple of years ago.
