The Shelby Quilt of Valor group spends many Saturdays making quilts for veterans and active-duty military. During COVID, they couldn’t award quilts, but they got ahead making them. The Shelby group is the only quilt of valor group in the county.

STROMSBURG — A familiar face will lead the way as Grand Marshal for the Swedish Midsommar Festival Parade. Sterling Anderson is no stranger of the Swedish Festival. “I don’t think I’ve missed a festival over the years,” he said.

Do your children or grandchildren like barns? Or maybe you are a collector? The Son’s of the American Legion Post 132 are raffling a barn during the Swedish Festival. The barn is made of reclaimed redwood and the rocks are from Eagle Mountain Lake.

The Polk County News recently added a veteran journalist to its staff. Rick Holtz joins the team after working the past 15 years for newspapers in Indiana. Most recently he was the Advertising Manager at the Journal Review in Crawfordsville, Ind. “Everyone has a story to tell,” he said.

TEN YEARS AGO June 7, 2012 Gresham held their alumni banquet. Photos were included of the classes of 1942, 1952, 1957, 1962, 1972, 1977 and 1982. Loretta Ferguson of rural Gresham passed away this past week. Loretta was a former employee of the Farmers Country Store in Gresham.
