Fires Rage in Southwest Nebraska Again

Very dry weather and wind prompted another fire in southwest Nebraska. This one was mainly in Furnas, Red Willow, and Frontier counties. The towns of Barley, Cambridge and Indianola had to evacuate more than once over the weekend. This fire was named the Road 702 Fire.

Fire in Rural Rising City Takes Lives of Cattle

A fire broke out at 2670 D Road, Rising City in nearby Butler County around 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23rd when a front-end loader bucket sparked on a concrete pad next to a hay facility. The fire spread to calving sheds rapidly.

Polk County 4-H Hosts Performing Arts and Speech Contest

Polk County 4-H held its annual Performing Arts and Speech Contest on Thursday, April 21 at the Cross County Auditorium. 4-Hers presented speeches and shared their talents in dance and gymnastics. Ribbons were awarded to each of the participants.

Local Woman Perishes in Car Accident

Fog was terrible on the morning of Thursday, April 21 causing a 3-vehicle accident near Bradshaw on highway 34. A van, pickup and semi-truck were all part of the accident near County Road F and Highway 34. The van driven by Cindi Perdue was heading south on Road F.

The annual Gresham American Legion Davidson-Neujahr #13 Easter Egg Hunt was held on Saturday morning, April 16th, 2022 at the Gresham park. Forty children braved the cold and windy conditions for a quick few minutes of fun!

Next Sunday, April 24th is a Hot Ham and Cheese fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Just in case you are wondering why we need occasional fundraisers, it is because our heat, water, phone, insurance and the cost of replacement items amounts to over $700 each month.
