Eldsworth S. Cleland

Eldsworth S. Cleland, age 96 of York, NE passed away Friday, February 13, 2026 in York. He was born on February 22, 1929 to Ralph and Leola (Van Anda) Cleland in York. He was united in marriage to Doris R. Schnase on June 3, 1961 in Lincoln, NE.

Eldsworth was a true handyman who could fix just about anything and was always willing to help. He loved spending time at auctions, always on the lookout for a good find, and enjoyed going on bike rides around town. He was a devoted member of the East Hill Church of Christ in York, as his faith was an important part of his life.

Eldsworth was an Army veteran serving from 1951-1953. After the military he farmed before working for the City of Stromsburg and the city of York for many years.

He is survived by his children Linda Poellot and significant other Jeff Brust of Omaha, NE; Debra (Kurt) Tatro of Geneva, NE; Yvonne (Frank) Williams of York; Russell Cleland of Stromsburg, NE; grandchildren: Tristan Poellot of York; Valerie (Jesse) Klein of Lincoln, NE; Logan Tatro of Lincoln; Christie (Jeff) Clemons of Oregon; Tommy Williams of Oregon; Pj Williams of California; Amanda (Jamie Diessner) Williams of York; Aaron (Stephanie) Williams of York; Ashley (Kyle) Christenson of Plainview, NE; Rose (Brandon Grant) Williams of York; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Tewell of Hastings, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sons: Dean, Daniel, and David Cleland, and sister Glenna Larson.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Friday, February 20, 2026 at the East Hill Church of Christ in York. Interment with military honors will follow in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. A closed casket visitation will be held from 2:30-8 p.m. on Thursday at the mortuary in York. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
