Connie Lyn Pokorney, age 76, of Shelby, Nebraska, passed away September 26, 2026 at her home in Shelby.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Shelby Cemetery.
Connie was born June 5, 1950 in Shelby, Nebraska to Mervin and Janet (Malek) Hiemer. She attended school in Shelby, graduating from Shelby High School in 1968.
On May 25, 1968 she was united in marriage to John E. Pokorney at the Methodist Church in Shelby. To this union three children were born. Connie worked as a waitress at Trails Best Cafe in Rising City, was owner/operator of the Bull Pen Bar and Grill in Surprise and as an order puller for KU Vet in David City.
Connie enjoyed antiquing and going to garage sales, family dinners, making chocolate chip cookies for the grandchildren, reading, collecting quilts and marbles, NASCAR, fishing and especially spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events.
Survivors include her husband John of Shelby; children: John (Robin) Pokorney of Leigh, Dan (Wendy) Pokorney of Shelby, and Sara Neujahr of Shelby; grandchildren: Jayden (Trevon) Emmons of Emerson, Tyrell (Anita) Pokorney of Leigh, Cort (Natalie Siegel) Pokorney of Leigh, Erica (Toby Semler) Pokorney of Omaha, Kamryn Pokorney of Omaha, Dalton Pokorney of Shelby, Emily (Caden Bailey) Neujahr of David City, Allie (Caleb Thege) Neujahr of David City and Dayne Neujahr of Shelby; great grandchildren: Juddson, Bergan and Hazel; brothers: Steve (Terry) Hiemer of Florida and Bob (Cathy) Hiemer of Arizona; brother-in-law Tom Ingalls and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mervin and Janet Hiemer and sister Cindy Ingalls.
Memorials are suggested to the Shelby Rescue squad.
