Rex Grossnicklaus, age 92, died Sunday, March 2, 2025 in Osceola.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Friday at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Osceola. Visitation is on Thursday from 5-7 with a 7:00 pm Vigil to follow, all at St. Vincent’s. Interment is in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Silver Creek with Military Honors by members of the US Air Force.
Rex Grossnicklaus was born July 7, 1932 in Osceola, NE to Holly and Doris (Gondringer) Grossnicklaus. Rex graduated from Osceola High School in 1950. He entered the US Air Force and served from December 16, 1952 until December 1, 1956. Rex loved playing baseball, playing until he was 47. Through his love of dancing, he met his wife to be, Joyce Starostka. They were united in marriage on April 8, 1958 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek. They continued to dance for their 63 years together. Rex farmed between Osceola and Silver Creek for all his life.
Rex had a great love for baseball, playing well into his adult life. He also enjoyed serving as a youth coach for his children throughout the years and continued his love for baseball by managing an adult baseball team for many years. Because of his involvement and longevity in the game, he was inducted into the Nebraska Baseball Hall of Fame. Rex loved to attend all of his children’s and grandchildren’s sports and activities.
Rex was a member of the Silver Creek American Legion and the Catholic Church.
Rex is survived by a daughter, Lynette (Tom) Pallas of Seward; a son Roger (Teri) Grossnicklaus of Lincoln, a daughter: Kim (Shane) Teichmeier of Lincoln; and a son: Chad (Jennifer) Grossnicklaus of Gretna; grandchildren: Ashley (Chris) Peterson, Arden Grossnicklaus and Royce Grossnicklaus, Cassandra (Travis) Reinke, Jalyn Teichmeier, and Kayla Tiechmeier; and great grandchildren: Bryce & Caden Peterson, Alaina Reinke, Braxton Reinke and extended family, and sister-in-law Myrla Grossnicklaus of Shelby.
He is preceded in death by his wife Joyce Grossnicklaus, his parents, a daughter Lana Grossnicklaus, sisters Mava (Sid) Sigler and Jill (Larry) Snodgrass and his brother Jan Grossnicklaus. www.mckownfuneralhome.com
