HASTINGS — The Polk County Slammers continues their hot play, picking up their 20th win on the season over the weekend at Hastings. The Slammers used a six-run second inning to jump out on Gering in an 11-7 win.

Osceola Schools would like to congratuate junior Courtney Sunday on breaking the RBI record for the Polk County Slammers. Heading into Tuesday’s game with Aquinas, Sunday had 36 RBI so far this season. The slugger is batting 0.380 this season and is second on the Slammers with 10 doubles.

Osceola splits with Fullerson, Elba

FULLERTON — Osceola walked away with a split on Thursday, beating Elba and falling to Fullerton. The Bulldogs were able to get a straight sets win over the Blue Jays, getting a 25-15, 25-20 win. They would not be so lucky against the home team, falling 25-8, 25-20 to Fullerton.

Slammers win 2, Panthers get split

DAVID CITY — The Slammers picked up a pair of wins on Thursday, defeating Blue River and York. The Polk County Slammers defeated Blue River 11-3 on Thursday. Individual stats are not available.

Winter Sport Classifications Released

The Nebraska School Activities Association released the 2022-2023 winter classifications recently. Basketball begins in late November and wrestling begins in early December. Boys Basketball Cross County will be Class C-2. High Plains and Shelby-Rising City will both participate in Class D-1.

Area football teams looking for Week 5 wins

GILTNER — Friday Night Lights will be bright a day early this week. Osceola (3-1) travels to Giltner (2-2) for a rare Thursday night game. Giltner is coming off a 28-12 loss to High Plains. The Bulldogs are still riding high, coming off a 58-20 homecoming win last week.

Slammers beat Broncos, 10-0 in 4 innings

POLK — Polk County used a seven-run second inning and a two-hit pitching performance to cruise to their 16th win on the season. Savanna Boden went 2-for-2 with two RBI and scored twice, while Kylee Krol went 2-for-2 with one RBI and scored twice for the Slammers. Courtney Sunday had three RBI.

Longhorns too much for Bulldogs

DORCHESTER — The Longhorns were too much on Tuesday, as the Bulldogs dropped a road match in four sets. Osceola (4-10) would drop the first set 25-14 before turning it around in the second set. Dorchester would pull out a win in the back-and-forth second set, edging Osceola 26-24.

‘Dawgs Roll Over Tigers, 58-20

OSCEOLA — The Bulldogs were ready to go on their home turf, rolling in with a touchdown by Kale Gustafson with only a few minutes off the clock. The Palmer Tigers quickly tied it up getting a touchdown with 5:41 left in the first quarter.

Panthers, Slammers Compete at David City

DAVID CITY — Polk County and Blue River each went 1-2 on the day at the David City Invite on Saturday, each dropping games to some of the best teams in the state. Polk County opened the day with a 2-1 win over Mercy.
