September is College Savings Month

LINCOLN — Governor Pete Ricketts is calling attention to the importance of saving for a loved one’s future education by issuing a proclamation declaring September as College Savings Month.

Report from Joe Rystrom, Delegate Grass roots movement bring changes to Nebraska GOP. It was an exciting time full of unexpected events. To begin with there were more people there than have been to the convention in many years. Many of the delegates were first-timers.

Area 4-H’ers on Display at State Fair

GRAND ISLAND — Polk County is well represented at the Nebraska State Fair. Over the weekend, 4-H projects were judged and fashion and livestock shows took place. Projects are now on display. The 4-H exhibits open every day at 10 a.m. in the FFA 4-H Building.

Polk Senior Center News

Greetings from the Polk Senior Center! Next week the center will be closed on Labor Day Sept. 5th. On Tuesday September 6, we have pedicures. If you would like a pedicure, just call the senior center at 402-765-2311 and we will help you set up an appointment.

Polk Receives Donations to ‘Save the Bandstand’

POLK — The town of Polk has seen their bandstand deteriorate in recent years. The current bandstand was erected in 1921 and has had minor repairs over the years. Recently a committee formed to “Save the Bandstand.

HPC Little Cheer Camp Returns for 7th Year

CLARKS —The 7th annual HPC Little Cheer Camp returns Saturday, Sept. 24 at the High Plains football field in Clarks. The clinic is from 10-11 a.m. and is open to any boy or girl in preschool to 6th grade. Attendees will learn a cheer that will be performed at the Sept.

Meeting Students’ Needs

Lisa Shoup of Stromsburg has been taking in school supplies through donations and purchases for six years, then she redistributes them to anyone who needs them. She started seeing this need in the community and surrounding area, and felt the Holy Spirit prompting her to address this need.
