POLK — Stop by the Polk Senior Center today (and every Thursday) for art class at 9:30 a.m. and dominoes at 12:30 p.m. Be sure to come by on Friday for the Outdoor Flea Market, which opens at 8 a.m. Monday get in line for Line Dancing from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Vern and Mary Jane Samuels of Polk are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with an Open House at the Polk Senior Center on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 2-4 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend. The reception is hosted by their children, Lisa (Bedient) and Josh Huckaby of Bishop, Calif.

New High Plains Principal Hits Ground Running

POLK — There is a new face in the principal’s office at High Plains. Micah Fisher comes to the district after spending the last five years as Associate Principal at North Platte High School.

Back to School Time is Here

It’s that time of year again. We turned the calendar to August, and now it’s Back To School time! The time parents love and kids hate. When I was a kid, my favorite part of back to school time was the shopping.

Polk Library

Not a lot happening in Polk these days. Vacation Bible School is over and people are getting ready to start back to school. With it being so hot outside, the library is a GREAT place to cool off. Come and check out our new books and look around to see what the library has to offer.

Golf Scramble to Helps Pay Camp

The third annual Dennis Gray Memorial 4-Person Golf Scramble returns at 9 a.m. Saturday. The scramble is at Valley View Golf Course in Central City. Proceeds from the scramble help offset the cost for High Plains students attending summer camps for athletic and other activities.

Heritage Awards Presented at Polk County Fair

OSCEOLA — Friday night before the Figure 8 race, the Nebraska Farm Bureau, Nebraska Association of Farm Managers and Aksarben Foundation recognizes families for keeping the farm in the family for a number of years.

Figure 8 Drives Crowds to Polk County Fair

OSCEOLA — The NeFigure8N race series rolled into Polk County last week for the Polk County Fair. Toby Beckmann won the Open contest. Darren Meinke won the Stock contest. Brian Pribyl won the Compact contest.
