Lady Storm Top Huskies in County Battle

SHELBY — High Plains held off a late Shelby-Rising City run to hold on for a 35-32 win on Friday.Rylee Ackerson scored 4 of her 5 points in the final 3:26 of the fourth quarter to keep the Storm ahead of the Huskies. Shelby-Rising City connected on just 2-of-9 free throws in the final quarter.

Turpitt Places First for Blue River

OMAHA – The Blue River girls wrestled at Millard West on Saturday. Bailey Turpitt placed first, and Danica Watts came in fourth.100: Kynnlee Hamling lost to Maria Hoegemeyer (Millard West) by pin in 3:14. She then had a bye. Then she lost to Jazmin Leija (Linc. Northstar) by pin in 2:41.

FRIEND — Taya Pinneo scored her 1,000th career point on Saturday as Shelby-Rising City finished third at the Exeter-Milligan/Friend Holiday Tournament.

Huskies Suffer Loss to Mustangs, Boys Win Over Schuyler

GIRLS SHELBY - In spite of a standout performance by Taya Pinneo, the Lady Huskies lost to the Lady Mustangs on Thursday, 53-39.Pinneo had 31 of the Huskies’ 39 points, including tying her record for the most three-pointers in a game, which is 7.

Cougars Open with Signature Win,Add Victory over S-RC

STROMSBURG – It’s supposed to be the season for giving and the Cross County boys basketball team is already showing that – when it concerns its offense – the Cougars are willing and able to sacrifice for the greater good.

S-RC Wins Own Quad

SHELBY - Shelby-Rising City hosted a quad last Thursday with High Plains, Winside and Clarkson-Leigh. The Huskies came out the big winners, defeating Clarkson- Leigh 52-12, Winside 42-18 and High Plains 41-24. High Plains came in second, with their only loss to S-RC.

Blue River Girls’ Wrestling

DAVID CITY - Shelby-Rising City combines with East Butler and David City for Blue River girls’ wrestling. This year seven girls from S-RC return to the mats.Bailey Turpitt (senior) is back for her third year. She just missed state last year, and her first year as a sophomore she wrestled boys.

Lady Huskies Led by Pinneo

SHELBY - Senior Taya Pinneo is excited for her favorite sport to begin. Although she attained 2000 sets in volleyball, she told Polk County News “basketball is really her favorite sport”. Last year she was the point guard with step-sister Ava Larmon driving in points.

Youth and a New Coach for Husky Basketball

SHELBY – A new coach and a youthful lineup will make Shelby- Rising City’s boys basketball program an interesting experiment in team chemistry this winter, but the good news is the one with the hoops lab coat is a science teacher.
