Area Athletes Receive CRC Honors

Polk County basketball players are beginning to see postseason honors roll in. The Crossroads All-Conference teams were announced earlier this week. The boys all-conference first team features Osceola senior Isaiah Zelasney and junior Kale Gustafson.
Each week during the school year, the Polk County News will select a male and female Athlete of the Week. This week since there were no male competitions we are limiting it to just one female.

Huskies Fall to Eagles in Subdistrict Opener

McCOOL JUNCTION — The game was closer than the final score indicated. Shelby-Rising City saw its season end in the opening round of the D1-3 Subdistrict at McCool Junction on Tuesday. The Eagles advanced to Thursday’s subdistrict final with a 48-40 win over the Huskies.

8 Area Wrestlers Return with Medals

OMAHA — Polk County was well-represented at the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha. County schools sent 12 wrestlers and eight found themselves on the medal stand on Saturday.   SRC: Justin Knoll (160 pounds) would first wrestle Varner of Hemingford and pinned him in 3:13.

Huskies Finish Regular Season with Loss at Home

SHELBY — Shelby-Rising City closed out the regular season at home on Friday with a 43-36 loss to East Butler. The game started out slow for both teams. Dalton Pokorney put the Huskies on the board first, connecting on a basket at the 6:14 mark in the opening quarter.

Boys Basketball Subdistrict Opponents Announced

The boys subdistrict pairings were released earlier this week and area teams have begun their journey to Lincoln. Osceola has the hardest path forward in the D2-3 Subdistrict, with four teams with winning records in the field.

Huskies season ends at subdistrict

STROMSBURG — Despite a 32-point performance by Taya Pinneo, Shelby-Rising City lost its C2-7 semifinal contest to Centennial Tuesday to finish 10-12 on the season.
