Huskies Win 66-0, in Hunt for Playoff Berth

SHELBY — After consecutive losing seasons being back in eight-man football and with just four seniors on its roster, it’s possible that the naysayers would’ve expected the Huskies to struggle again in 2022.

Blue River Panthers Runners-up at SNC

WILBER — Blue River finished as runner-up at the Southern Nebraska Conference Tournament. The Panthers fell 18-10 to Milford to finish as runners-up. Blue River advanced to the championship game with a 12-4 win over Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan.

Huskies Finish 4th at David City Invite

DAVID CITY — Shelby-Rising City finished fourth at the David City Invite on Saturday. The Huskies finished the day falling in three sets to Aquinas, 20-25, 25-11, 25-22. In their second match on the day, the Huskies beat Twin River 25-19, 22-25, 25-21.

Storm Win 2, Huskies Split at Dorchester

Dorchester — The High Plains and Shelby-Rising City volleyball teams headed to Dorchester last Thursday night for a volleyball triangular. First up was High Plains versus Dorchester. High Plains won in straight sets, 25-23, 25-17.

Slammers win 2, Panthers get split

DAVID CITY — The Slammers picked up a pair of wins on Thursday, defeating Blue River and York. The Polk County Slammers defeated Blue River 11-3 on Thursday. Individual stats are not available.

Winter Sport Classifications Released

The Nebraska School Activities Association released the 2022-2023 winter classifications recently. Basketball begins in late November and wrestling begins in early December. Boys Basketball Cross County will be Class C-2. High Plains and Shelby-Rising City will both participate in Class D-1.

Area football teams looking for Week 5 wins

GILTNER — Friday Night Lights will be bright a day early this week. Osceola (3-1) travels to Giltner (2-2) for a rare Thursday night game. Giltner is coming off a 28-12 loss to High Plains. The Bulldogs are still riding high, coming off a 58-20 homecoming win last week.

Huskies split with Knights, Eagles

BRUNING — The Huskies volleyball team won one and lost one on Tuesday. Shelby-Rising City (9-4) beat Nebraska Lutheran (2-10) in a back-and-forth match, 25-22, 23-25, 25-15. Individual stats for the game are not available. Class D-1 No.

Blue River wins over Aurora

DAVID CITY — Blue River scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to get a 7-6 win over Aurora on Tuesday. The Panthers were down 6-3 heading into the last inning. Blue River (15-8) takes on Polk County and York on Thursday at home.

Huskies Fall on Road to No. 6 Patriots, 54-26

CLARKSON — It was a tough night at the office for the Huskies. Undefeated Class D-1 No. 6 Clarkson/Leigh were too much for Shelby-Rising City (2-2), coming out of top 54-26. Freshman quarterback Logan Lindsley had a game-high 131 yards rushing and finished with three touchdowns for the Huskies.
