World Marriage Day Honored

Eleven couples celebrated World Marriage Day on February 11th at Sacred Heart Church in Shelby. Father Andrew Litt officiated. Honored couple was Roger & Christi Smith, who will celebrate 25 years of marriage this year.

Spelling Bee Champions Crowned Monday

OSCEOLA - Polk County held the annual spelling bee on Monday. All four schools participated. Each school sent about five participants per grade level. Approximately 31 fifth and sixth graders competed in the morning. After five rounds, the first eight were eliminated.

HUSKIES REPEAT AS CRC CHAMPS

BRAINARD - Eleven boys’ wrestling teams made the trip to East Butler to compete in conference wrestling. The Crossroads conference only has six wrestling teams, so five more were invited to fill out the tourney and make it more competitive.

Backpack Program Quietly Serves Families

There are 86 local kids not going hungry this holiday season thanks to the Backpack Program. The Backpack Program, originating in Lincoln, is locally sponsored by A Place At the Table Inc.

Carter Announced as Entrepreneurship Winner

LINCOLN -- Alexa Carter of Rising City, an agricultural education major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, recently won a prize in the university’s 3-2-1 Quick Pitch competition.

Shelby-RC One Act is Statebound!

NEBRASKA CITY – Shelby- Rising City took first place at districts last Wednesday with their play “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Aiden Zimmerman was named overall best actor.
