TWO WRESTLERS CROWNED CHAMPIONS

OMAHA– Boys state wrestling was Thursday through Saturday in Omaha. Two of our local wrestlers were crowned state champions.The NSAA decided to do the championship rounds in a different order, starting with 157 pounds to 285, followed by 106 to 150.
Each week during the school year, the Polk County News will select a male and female Athlete of the Week.

Thelen Pulls Out Last Second Win Against Dawgs

SHELBY– The boys’game was back and forth, and it was anyone’s game. Just when Osceola looked to have it in the bag, Husky Noah Thelen shot a three at the last second and it went in for a Husky 55-54 win! The Husky crowd went wild.

SHELTON – Shelby-Rising City qualified six young men for state wrestling, and took third place at districts in Shelton on Saturday. They scored 132 points as a team and there were 24 teams. The six qualifiers were Owen Krafka (132 lbs., junior, 2-time qualifier), Logan Lindsley (150 lbs.

Lady Cougars Wrap Up Regular Season

UTICA – Heading into the NSAA state playoffs, the Cross County girls basketball team earned a hard-fought 45-43 road win last Friday over Centennial, as the Cougars overcame an early 11-3 deficit rewarded for its ninth straight win.

Cougars Beat Centennial, East Butler as Win Streak Hits 15

UTICA – It was a game of spurts and Cross County’s boys basketball team had the last one in last Friday’s 56-49 road win at Centennial High, breaking a 39-39 tie with a 15-5 run over a 5:15 span to extend its winning streak to 15 games and move to 20-2 overall.

Osceola Girls Win in Battle of County Canines

SHELBY - It was a battle of the canines as the Lady Bulldogs traveled the few miles to take on the Lady Huskies. The Dawgs came out on top 57-45.The game started out close. The tip-off resulted in a jump shot, so Janna Roberts and Kaleigh Ruth got to jump for possession. Roberts got it.

Lady Huskies Finish Season at Subs

CAIRO - Monday the Lady Huskies faced Centura. Originally the game was to be played in Maywood, but due to weather it was moved to Centura’s home court. The Lady Huskies lost their final game by a score of 52-11. No other information was available at press time.
